Privacy Policy

Summary

MetadataEraser is a client-side web application. Your files are processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. We do not upload, receive, store, or have access to any file you process with our tools. This is not just a policy — it is a technical guarantee enforced by the application's architecture.

1. File Processing

When you use MetadataEraser to strip metadata from a photo, PDF, or Word document:

  • The file is read into browser memory using the FileReader API
  • A Web Worker processes the file data entirely on your device
  • The cleaned file is generated as a Blob in browser memory
  • You download the cleaned file directly from your browser
  • No file data is transmitted over the network at any point

You can verify this by monitoring your browser's Network tab in Developer Tools during processing. Zero network requests are made to transmit file data.

2. Data We Collect

We may collect minimal, non-identifying data for basic site analytics:

  • Page views — Which pages are visited (no personal identifiers)
  • Referrer — How you found our site
  • Country — Approximate geographic location from IP (no IP stored)

We do not use cookies for tracking. We do not collect email addresses, account information, or personal data unless you voluntarily contact us.

3. Local Storage

MetadataEraser uses your browser's localStorage to save your theme preference (light or dark mode). This data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

4. Service Worker & PWA

MetadataEraser registers a service worker to enable offline functionality. The service worker caches application assets (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) on your device so the tool works without an internet connection. No user files or personal data are cached by the service worker.

5. Third-Party Links

Our site may contain affiliate links to third-party services such as VPN providers or encrypted storage platforms. These links are clearly marked. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

6. GDPR & CCPA Compliance

Because we do not process, store, or transmit your personal files, the scope of personal data handling is minimal. Under GDPR and CCPA:

  • We do not sell personal information
  • We do not share personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes
  • We do not use targeted advertising
  • We do not create user profiles

If you have questions about your data rights, please contact us at [email protected].

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of MetadataEraser after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
